This is one of the four insigna that are part of the Italian Air Force badge. Gabriele D'Annunzio made the famous flight on Vienna with the Ansaldo S.V.A.s of this Squadriglia on 9th August 1918.

Ship 9 conducted airborne towing tests at Corpus Christi, Texas in February. The US Navy cancelled the HSL in July 1955. Of 233 serial numbers assigned, the last 180 airframes were cancelled.
