On a sortie somewhere over the North sea, on a circuit track waiting for what the crew call trade...aka..Tornado f3s...

This shot was given to me after a visit to the RAF careers office , in Ridley Place , Newcastle Upon Tyne...I have kept it all these years and was told all those years ago I could do with it what ever I wanted...So now seems a good time to use it well for others also to see...

returning home to base at 8pm

Built in 1953 as CV340 N3447 for Northeast Airlines but never delivered, it was sold as I-DOGU with Alitalia and converted as a CV440. In September 1961 it became YU-ADN with JAT Jugoslovenski Aero Transport, and served until March 1974 when it returned to the USA as N94436 with a leasing company and converted as a CV440F. It was acquired by Aviateca, whose basic livery it was still wearing when photographed, in Guatamala as TG-ABA in March 1976 before being restored as N94436 in January 1979. It is said to have been written off in April 1980 but the details are unknown.

Registered as G-AOTI in 1956. Preserved at London Colney from 1995.

Otter 294 was delivered to the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) on 5 November 1959 registered VP-FAK. It was packed into a crate at Downsview and shipped to Deception Island in the Antarctic on board the MV Kista Dan, arriving 26 January 1960. First flight in the Antarctic was on 3 February 1960. It made its last flight from Adelaide Island to Deception Island on 7 March 1967. The Deception Island base was closed due to a volcanic eruption in December 1967. VP-FAK remained at Deception Island, lying outside the abandoned hangar. It was still to be seen there in 2004, thirty-seven years later.
