A historic machine gets recycled. This very first 300 series Intercontinental 707 was delivered to Pan American World Airways August 28, 1958 as N714PA christened Clipper Golden Eagle. Aeroamerica acquired the aircraft after a lease to Perfect Air Tours in April 1979 to join their fleet of Boeing 720s and 707s. When the airline was grounded in 1982, this was one of the aircraft left behind when others were returned to lessors and banks. These were scrapped at Boeing Field in 1982/83. The nose of this aircraft went to the New England Air Museum.

Cochise ceased flying in 1982 and the aircraft was bought by Air Virginia in April 1984. This former US Navy Privateer was purchased circa 1965 by Sergio Tomassoni as a stripped airframe , installed Wright Cyclone engines, a B-24D nose and outfitted it as a fire bomber. Flying as tanker 30 until sold to the Lone Star Flight Museum in 1991 where the patrol bomber was restored to military configuration. The aircraft was transferred to Pima Air and Space Museum in 2016.
