Built in 1956 and cancelled on 28 June 1976. During the 1950's and 1960's, the US government was applying a policy of containment towards Communist influence in certain regions of the world. As part of this, the US Army Corps of Engineers was building military infrastructure in friendly countries. OFW became one of their majors contractors and was awarded several contracts in the Middle East. They also operated C-46 N4086A which visited EGPK in August 1961.

Before acquiring any helicopters of their own, the Swedish armed forces held extensive trials with Ostermans Aero's Bell 47s and S-55s - fortunately for the company which had lost a lot of money using the two S-55s on a Malmö - Copenhagen passenger shuttle service in June and July 1955. The photo source says the photo was taken in 1961 on the occasion of the East German Lufthansa's first Berlin - Prague - Budapest - Sofia service. However, East Germany's country prefix was DM from 1956 until 1981, and the airline already served Sofia from 1956. Photo from: Fortepan
