Early C-47 (no suffix), 41-18384. Served in North Africa. Leased to Pioneer Air Lines from 1947 until 1952, reportedly named Ben Milan. It returned to military service for a few years as a C-117C - so had it already been modified to VC-47A? Photo from: Albuquerque Progress / Albuquerque Museum

This C-47 was built as a C-47B-16-DK at Oklahoma City and TOC with the USAF in December 1944. It was converted twice, firstly in September 1954 to a C-47D and then around 1956 an executive interior was fitted to make it a VC-47D. In July 1971 it was transferred to the Chanute Air Force Base Training Center at Rantoul and used as an instructional airframe. It joined this museum in 1993 but was offered for sale as scrap in September 2017, two years after the museum closed.

This C-47 served with the Força Aérea Portuguesa from 1961 until transferred to the Museu do Ar in 1976. It was then stored at Sintra on behalf of the museum. When the Museu do Ar moved its main display location from Alverca to Sintra in 2009/2010, this C-47 was fully restored and placed on outdoor display there. It is seen here when it was still in storage in unrestored condition. Serial 6157 visible on the wing underside.
