Designed when Scaled Composites was owned by Beechcraft, the Model 81 Catbird is a high efficiency 5 seat single engine aircraft. Stored from the ceiling of Scaled Composites hangar after the company was bought back by Burt Rutan and his partners, the aircraft was made flyable again in 2011. Holder of several world records, it's has attended several EAA AirVentures since.

Designed when Scaled Composites was owned by Beechcraft, the Model 81 Catbird is a high efficiency 5 seat single engine aircraft. Stored from the ceiling of Scaled Composites hangar after the company was bought back by Burt Rutan and his partners, the aircraft was made flyable again in 2011. Holder of several world records, it's has attended several EAA AirVentures since.

Stored at Nanaimo since the mid 1990s. Acquired by the Evergreen Aviation Museum on 31 July 2010 and restored to flying condition. Became N249SB and flown to McMinnville, OR on delivery to the museum on 6 August 2011. Placed on display by July 2012 in fictitious US Navy markings as BuNo 04982, even though it never flew with the US Navy. It is in fact ex RCAF 9815.
