After the Mirage IIIV VTOL fighter project, Dassault built a swept-wing prototype powered by one P&W TF30 engine, the Mirage IIIF2 or Mirage F2 (centre). The planned single-seat, TF30-engined Mirage F3 interceptor was abandoned in favour of the variable-geometry Mirage G, however. The TF30-powered Mirage IIIG prototype is seen in the background. Eventually the twin-engined Mirage G8 got cancelled too in 1973 and the smaller and simpler, Atar 9K-50-engined Mirage F1, in the foreground, became the Mirage III's successor instead. The Netherlands East Indies acquired some Glenn L. Martin aircraft from 1915, and the Dutch navy ordered four Type S floatplanes which reached the motherland by ship in mid-1917. They proved both difficult to reassemble and difficult to fly. The type, built in very limited numbers, was designed by Donald Douglas. The interned German Friedrichshafen FF.33, V-2, has a similarly elaborate tailfin and rudder. The floatplanes are seen at the naval seaplane station at De Mok, on Texel Island.
