After service with the RCAF, the National Research Council took this aircraft in 1965 as CF-SVP-X and fitted it with extensive magnetic anomaly equipment for experimental work, flying her for ten years. Sold in 11.78, by this time the world's last flying example of the type. Owned by Aircraft Salvage of Dallas, and allegedly used for smuggling in the Caribbean until 1980. Then scrapped in the early part of the decade at Greater Inagua Island, Bahamas.

This DC-6 was acquired by Air Atlantique a couple of months before this shot and used for spares. Here luckily still carrying the full colours of Greenlandair with whom it had operated as OY-DRM "Sululik" from 6.72, the titles were soon removed. She was originally Canadian Pacific's CF-CZS from 4.57 and had a earlier UK connection when leased to BUA 1962-64 (G-ARXZ); ended up being broken up at MSE in 4.85

This 1980 747F became N632FE after the 1989 FedEx merger and was leased to Singapore Airlines as 9V-SQV in 7.93, then sub-leased to Korean as HL7401 in 9.94. Bought by Northwest in 9.96 (although KE lease continued for a year) and flew as N643NW

Ten years on from my first shot of this ex-FAA C-47, here she is operating for Interandes. Sold to ADES in 1996 and later Aerovanguardia. Crashed 31.7.07 en route from San José del Guaviare to Villavicencio when one engine failed, forcing crew to carry out an emergency landing in a rice field, but repaired and now flying again with Sadelca

This 1942 C-47 was in Italy with the USAAF during the last part of WWII and remained there afterwards with Linee Airee Italiane as I-LINA. After the merger with Alitalia in 1957, went to the Air Force in 1960 and flew electronic missions with 14° Stormo Radiomisure. Dumped at Practica di Mare in 1998 and still derelict there. Sad for what was arguably the star of that Fairford show, but at least there is a similar example beautifully preserved in the IAF museum at Vigna di Valle

Seen here while serving with AFSC's 4950 Test Wing, this 1956-build Hercules was fitted with four-blade props by 1984 and was only relatively recently retired at Eglin, then being broken up on the ranges there. Note the various sensors and radomes on the forward fuselage, all of which which were later removed

A nice gathering of classic CAAC jets. Delivered to China in 5.74, the 707 was transferred to China Southwest in 8.88 and sold to Quiet Skies in 6.95 as Stage 3 hush-kit demonstrator N717QS. Appeared at Farnborough 1998 and even fitted with winglets by Paris 1999. Cancelled 2.03 and since b/u
