This was the prototype of the F.121 (F.3X) Jabiru - the first reg F-ESAR can clearly be seen. Despite its ugliness, it won the 1923 Grand Prix des Avions Transports prize and flying characteristics were not too bad. F-AGFC 'sold abroad 8.25' but where? N4634 was built and sent to the ELTA exhibition by the Gosport Aircraft Company. Seaplanes for the ELTA used a location at the mouth of a channel, quite exposed to the elements of the IJ Bay. The view is south towards the city centre with the triple-spired Posthoornkerk above the tailplane. Once source says the flying boat was banned from flying by the British Air Ministry, but it did fly at the exhibition, perhaps after the civil registration G-EAIK was validated. The date written on this photo is 12-4-1940 but with both the US (MM-DD-YYYY) and the more common international (DD-MM-YYYY) date styles used in Canada, the date was ambiguous. The April date has been used here because it is only three days after R3373 was delivered to the RCAF. A check of historical weather data reveals it did snow in Ottawa on April 11 and 12, 1940, so the presence of snow on the ground does not automatically rule out April. R3373 received the RCAF serial 6028, It was scrapped in 1943. Photo from: Library and Archives Canada

The prototype of the two-seat night fighter variant of the DH.112 Venom, first flown on 22 August 1950 as a private venture. The wooden fuselage nacelle was still made of wood, but the Venom NF.2 entered RAF service as a stopgap due to the late arrival of the Gloster Javelin. The NF.2 had dangerous shortcomings and needed to be replaced by the Venom NF.3. The NF.2 was only operated by No 23 Sqn and, in export Mk.51 form, by Sweden. Photo from: De Havilland
