This B-25J was delivered in 1944 as N5-239 (USAAF serial 44-29032) to the Netherlands East Indies Air Force at Batchelor airfield, near Darwin, Australia, from where it operated over Indonesia during Japanese occupation. After VJ Day, the aircraft moved to Palembang, Sumatra. It was later reserialled M-439 and is seen here carrying 18 Sqn markings which indicates that this picture was taken in 1949. In 1950, the aircraft was transferred to the Indonesian Air Force, retaining its serial. It is now preserved in the Air Force museum at Yogjakarta as "M-443". Previously the 'Museu de Armas, Vehiculos, Motorizados e Aviones Antigos 'Eduardo Andrea Matarazzo'. The founder died in 2002 and the museum is currently run by the City of Bebedouro. Sadly, many of the exhibits, especially the larger aircraft on external display, some of which have significant historical significance to Brazilian aviation, have suffered from long term lack of funding to keep them in good order. Ex 44-29500, the B-25 has been at the museum since the late 1970s.

The aircraft had recently made a post restoration flight from Kissimee, FL. It went on to be based with the Southern California Wing of the Confederate Air Force based at Camarillo, CA., where, after severe corrosion was detected it was decided that a complete tear-down restoration was required. This lasted over 20 years and it wasn't until 15th May 2016 that it made its first post-restoration flight. It now flies out of Camarillo painted as PBJ-1J BuNo. 35243 of Marine Bombing Squadron 611 which was lost on a mission in the Pacific in May 30 1945. (Credit: Warbirdregistry.org)

Painted in the markings of Jimmy Doolittle's Mitchell, this is in fact 44-30854 which was the last B-25 in the USAF inventory and made the final flight of the type when ferried from Turner AFB to Eglin for preservation in May 1960. It is on loan from the National Museum of the USAF, that has its own B-25 painted to represent Doolittle's machine, which ran out of fuel after the famous raid on Tokyo from USS Hornet in April 1942. The Lone Star Flight Museum also has a flying B-25 similarly attired
