This Avenger was TOC by the USN during June 45 but too late to see combat in the Pacific. Instead it spent its service life in various training units before being retired in 1962. It then served as a fire bomber until 1988 before being acquired by the Marine Corps museum. It is now on display at the Flying Leathernecks museum in the colours of VMTB-132 aboard USS Cape Gloucester in the East China Sea during July 1945. The side-on shot is all wing so I chose this angle for more detail.

The F-84F couldn't match up to the F-86 as a fighter but became a key ground attack aircraft for the USAF. This Thunderstreak served from about 1952 until 1970 and is now on display at the Grissom Air Museum.

Whilst the F-84F was certainly dogged by development, production and perfomance issues it flew at a time of rapid advancement in fast-jet capability and the lessons learned paved the way for the superb Century-series of fighters that followed. This Thunderstreak is on display at the March Field Air Museum.

This aircraft was delivered right towards the end of WWII being too late to see any action so languished for a year at NAS Tillamook before being SOC. Fortunately, she avoided the fate of most of her contemporaries, a date with the axeman, to wind up at the National Naval Aviation Museum during 1980.

This Wildcat is on display at the Flying Leathernecks museum at MCAS Miramar, although it is actually on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola. It is painted to represent Wildcat 'Black 53' flown by Joe Foss at Guadalcanal, who ended WWII as the Marine Corps second highest ranking ace with 26 victories.

This Wildcat was one of Lake Michigan's victims after a trainee Navy pilot failed to land correctly on either the converted carrier USS Sable or USS Wiolverine. She has acquired refurbished undercarriage, engine cowling, propellor and rudder as well as a her original wings. The difference between the new parts and those that spent many years on the bottom of the lake can be easily seen.
