This aircraft was flown as a "McDonnell Douglas 188" STOL demonstrator in the northeast corridor in the US during 1968. It was not registered in the USA, but was operated by the French Air Force on behalf of McDonnell Douglas in full Eastern Air Lines livery, under its military serial 2 (callsign F-ZJRL, formerly coded "L"). The following year it was painted in American Airlines livery and flown on other routes. The aircraft returned to France in June 1969 and was then operated by the French AF coded 62-NB until withdrawn from use in 1974. McDonnell Douglas had obtained a license to build this in the US as the 188, but since the airlines showed little interest the project was aborted.

(Photo thought to have been taken 14th Sept.1968 but date unconfirmed). Ex LB312. Registered G-AHXE 9th July 1946. Subsequently displayed in camouflage scheme as LB312. In June 1994 it was painted in D-Day markings as 'HH982', possibly for filming purposes, but reverted to LB312, which it now carries with the AAC Historic Aircraft Flight.

Delivered to BEA as G-APEG in 1961. Converted to a Merchantman freighter in 1971. Merged into British Airways in 1974. To Air Bridge Carriers in 1979. Withdrawn from use at East Midlands in 1983 and used as a fire trainer. Scrapped in 1997.

Delivered to Misrair as SU-AKN in 1958. Renamed to United Arab Airlines in 1960. To British Eagle as G-ATDR in 1965. Stored at Liverpool when they went bankrupt in 1968. Last flight to Blackbushe in 1969 and scrapped in 1970.

Ordered by Capital Airlines as N7463 but not delivered. Delivered to Aer Lingus as EI-AJW then to BEA as G-APNF and the Kuwait Oil Company in 1958. To Kuwait Airways as 9K-ACD in 1963 then to BKS Air Transport as G-APNF in 1967. Withdrawn from use at Newcastle and scrapped in 1970.

Delivered to BEA as G-AMOO in 1953. To Channel Airways in 1963 then to Cambrian Airways in 1966. Withdrawn from use at Cardiff in 1970 and scrapped in 1971.

Delivered new to Chicago & Southern (C & S), leased to Pacific Northern Airlines in April of 1955 then sold to PNA. Acquired by WAL thru merger.
