The USAF History and Traditions Museum at the Lackland AFB parade grounds has a beautifully restored collection of classic military aircraft. I visited 36 years after marching on that exact parade grounds as an Air Force recruit going through basic training. Unfortunately access to this interesting collection is restricted to those with valid US DoD identification.

Former Buffalo Airways PBY C-FOFI was added to the Hans Lauridsen collection in 2005, arriving at Glendale Airport on delivery on 5 October 2005. It was assigned registration N343CV in February 2005, but this was not taken up and it was delivered as C-FOFI. It was eventually registered as N413PB a few months after this photo was taken, in October 2007. The aircraft is seen here undergoing restoration on the ramp, before being moved to Buckeye, AZ in late 2011/early 2012.

Delivered to the USN in February 1943 as BuNo 12473. Surplused by the Navy in 1949, the aircraft passed through many owners before being stored at Greybull, WY in 1973. Ferried to the museum in 1983 where it is currently on display. The aircraft still has the Howard modifications it received many years ago, such as the squared wingtips. Was previously falsely painted as USAF "833538". It is seen here shortly before being painted in US Navy markings as 12473.

Aircraft is painted to represent a C-121C military transport aircraft and is on display at the AMC Museum at Dover AFB. The aircraft never served in any military role, and its last civilian registration was N1005C, when it flew for Capitol International Airways. Retired in 1967, it was converted to a cocktail lounge in Penndel, PA. It was disassembled and donated to the AMC Museum in 1997. Its fake military serial number 40315 (54-0315) is not a C-121 serial, but was assigned to a Northrop F-89H Scorpion fighter aircraft.
