An interesting exhibit in the Wernigerode aviation museum. This Jodel was never completed by its Swiss owner. Should it have a construction number assigned?

In the Luftwaffenmuseum, a group of Luftwaffe recruits is taught about the bombing of Rotterdam by Heinkel He 111s of KG 54 in May 1940. This machine was on temporary display in the Dutch city in 2015. It is actually a 1951 CASA 2.111, B.2H-109, later to B.2I-117 when re-engined with RR Merlins. Used for the film 'Battle of Britain' in the late 1960s. To the former German air force museum at Uetersen in 1969; moved to Gatow in 1995. The markings are of a KG 55 aircraft.

In truth I only went up to the Museum of Flight's Personal Courage Wing as there were too many people about everywhere else. Usually early aviation is low on my priority list but now I'm really happy to have spent time there. This Ca.20 is recognised as the world's first fighter and was stored by the Caproni family in a monastery for 85 years before being dismantled and transported to Seattle. A real piece of aviation history, amongst many, at the fantastic Museum of Flight!

This 1911 racer aircraft is seen in the Musee de l'Air et de l'Espace. It could be fitted with a variety of engines (here a Nieuport-Darracq of 28 Hp) It held several speed and distance records in 1911 and was rebuilt in the Nieuport factory as long ago as 1919.

After time at the SST Aviation Exhibit Center in Florida, where it was allowed to fall into disrepair, it then moved to California and now to the Museum of Flight Restoration Center at PAE. Hopefully this important piece of Boeing heritage will soon go on permanent display at the Museum of Flight at BFI. This view shows the forward cockpit section with the cantilever mechanism responsible for drooping the nose.

This photograph was taken at Parafield prior to restoration. The aircraft was designed by Clem Reginald Sheppard in the 1930s. Clem was born in October 1914. When he left school he joined the family business, Sheppards Jewellers of Adelaide, and trained as a watchmaker. As a young man he developed a keen interest in aviation. In the early 1930s he designed and built a glider (the CS1).

This aircraft, under construction, is I believe an Avyron JG802. It is an unusual design with a pusher-prop and a glass fibre construction reinforced with Kevlar and carbon fibre. It was to be available as a ready to assemble kit with a choice of three powerplants, including a turboprop

First flown in 1925, the Albert TE.1 was a light sport single-seater which managed 150 km/u (93 mph) on a 40-hp engine. A small number were built, and a series version was designated A.110. This airframe, No 17, was finished but did not receive an engine. It was stored in a barn in Fère-en-Tardenois, Aisne, in 1936, together with Albert A.61 two-seater F-AJFZ. They were discovered by the Ailex foundation in 1999.

Strange looking fake engines and props! This is one of two DC-3s on display at the parachute jumping base of the Escuela de Fuerzas Especiales No.9 (hence the "EFE-9" on the fin), along the Pan-American highway north of Latacunga. Unfortunately neither aircraft could be positively identified because all data plates had been removed. This one is fitted with regular C-47 cargo doors on the other side. This is a replica of the Laird Baby biplane from 1913. It was built by Emil Laird at the age of 16 with help from his brother. It looks remarkably conventional given its age.

This is actually N86427 ex-USAAF 44-29121 but is on display at the super Museo del Aire at Cuatro Vientos. The original B-25, 74-17, was another B-25 (ex-41-30338) that flew with the Spanish AF but was interned after landing in Nador (North Africa) in Aug. 1944. In 1948 it was returned to flying condition and between 1950-1953 served in the air force but was, unfortunately, scrapped in 1956.

The 28C-1 was the first fighter aircraft to serve with an American fighter unit under American command and in support of US troops. It was also first type to score an aerial victory with an American unit. This example on display at the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center is actually a composite of parts from five different aircraft. It was formerly civil registered as N4123A but that was cancelled in Jul-2012.
