On display at the Luftwaffenmuseum. The aircraft wears the Alpine badge and special livery to commemorate 34 years of Jagdbombergeschwader 34 "Allgäu" (JaboG34), which was formed on the F-84F Thunderstreak on 29 Nov 1958. The unit flew the F-104G from 1964 till 1987, amassing 242,785 hours on the type. It converted to the Tornado in 1987, which it flew till JaboG34 stood down at Memmingen in Dec 2002.

On display at the Luftwaffenmuseum. The DFS-230 glider mostly equipped LLG1 and was used by Fallschirmjäger to assault Fort Ében-Émael, in the Battle of Crete, the rescue of Mussolini and in the SS assault on Marshal Tito's HQ. Nine troops with equipment could be carried aboard. It was used to resupply the Afrika Korps and the Sixth Army encircled at Stalingrad in the failed airlift, without success due to weather conditions and vulnerable to Soviet AA defences. This replica wears the emblem of Schleppgruppe 2. It was also used by several LS Kdo. Over 1,500 of these assault gliders were built.

On display at the Luftwaffenmuseum. These gliders were used by Deutscher Luftsportverband (DLV) around 1935. Training for 'C' gliding proficiency certificates continued under the Flieger-Hitlerjugend and instructors from Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps (NSFK) towards forming future Luftwaffe pilots.

On display at the Luftwaffenmuseum. Attached is the disposable Rocketdyne RS-B 202 rocket accelerator that was used for the Zero-length launch (ZeLL) program tests. Successful ZeLL launches were made by an F-104G of Jagdbombergeschwader 31 (JaboG 31) "Boelcke" at Edwards AFB in 1963, followed by JaboG 32 at Lechfeld. The idea was to launch an interceptor after airfields were destroyed in a nuclear attack. In 1966 the Luftwaffe decided not to make ZeLL operational.

The all-weather fighter version of the MiG-17 is equipped with an Izumrud radar and three 23 mm NR-23 cannons. Its different nose cone can be appreciated in this shot of serial 165 preserved with the excellent collection at Gatow.

The Aero L-29 Delfin was the standard jet trainer for Warsaw Pact countries in the 60s and 70s. The East German Air Force used the aircraft, so it fits well with the collection at Gatow.

First flew in 1960. Coded as DA-102. Modified for the ZELL (Zero-Length Launch) program in 1962 and tested at Edwards AFB, CA. Shipped to West Germany in 1965 and coded as DB-127 for further testing at Lechfeld. Modified to standard configuration as 2002 in 1968 after the program was cancelled. Withdrawn from use in 1984 and preserved at Karlsruhe. Modified back to ZELL configuration in 1995 and preserved at Gatow as DB-127.

One of 66 G91/T3 weapon system trainers built under licence by Dornier for the Luftwaffe. The type was in service until being replaced by the Alpha Jet in 1982. It is one of many items displayed in the superb Militärhistorisches Museum at Gatow.

This MiG-21UM with serial 256 served with the NVA in JG-2 'Juri Gargarin' before being allocated serial 2377 upon reunification of the two Germany's.

The HFB 320 Hansa Jet is a twin-engine, ten-seat business jet that was designed and produced by German aircraft manufacturer Hamburger Flugzeugbau between 1964 and 1973. The most recognisable and unconventional feature of the aircraft is its forward-swept wing. During 1963, the German Air Force placed an order for 13 HFB 320s. Eight Hansa jets were purchased for providing electronic countermeasure (ECM) training to air crews; these aircraft were delivered between August 1976 and April 1982 and the last one was retired in 1994.

A weathered Transall can be found in the excellent museum at Gatow, it has been parked outside ever since it arrived here.

Taken on charge in November 1975, this Mi-8T was used by the East German Air Force for SAR-duties as can still be seen in this picture. Upon the German reunification, it was transferred and received a new serial 9314, but that is hardly visible on the helicoper today.

The indoor exhibition halls of the museum in Gatow have an interesting exhibition about aircraft of the Luftwaffe through the years. One of the aircraft featured is this Alpha Jet with serial 4150.

Delivered to the East German Air Force on 3 October 1964, served at Brandenburg-Briest until 1979 when it was relegated to ground instructional use. Moved to Gatow in 1996.

A former NVA Mi-8 equipped for passenger transport, seen here in Luftwaffe colours at Gatow. The type was used for a small number of years after German unification in 1990.

A weathered former NVA MiG-23MF can be found on outside display with the excellent museum in Gatow.

On display at the Luftwaffenmuseum with UB-32 rocket pods on the pylons. This is one of two aircraft acquired from Egypt by West German intelligence for evaluation by Wehrtechnische Dienststelle 61 (WTD 61) at Manching. It received the Luftwaffe s/n 98+61. The Su-20 (S-32MK) was the export version of the Su-17M (S-32M). It could carry the R-3S AAM and 24 cm S-24 rockets that were not carried by the Su-17M. The Su-20 was equipped with a SRD-5MK Quantum radio rangefinder for the R-3S missiles.
