Having entered service in September 1967 with 44 Squadron at Waterkloof, 6905 became the final DC4 to be retired by the SAAF. Sold to the South African Airways Historic Flight in December 1995, shortly after this photo was taken. Registered ZS-AUB the aircraft went on to fly with Swissair as HB-ILI/ZU-ILI to celebrate their 50th anniversary as well as making several long haul trips including Oshkosh and Fairford. Later transferred to the SAA Museum Society and operated by Skyclass on safari charters until retired in 2018. Currently on display in the SAA museum at Rand

Originally delivered to the USAAF as a C-54D, serial 42-72746. Later transferred to the Navy as an R5D-3, serial 56527, and redesignated as a C-54Q in 1962. At the time of the photo the aircraft was reportedly being used in fog dispersal experiments.

Originally delivered to the USAAF as 45-0540.

Built as 42-72344 for the USAAF. Converted to C-54DC for civilian use and delivered to Pan American World Airways as N88902 in July 1946. Sold to Eastern Airlines in November 1950 and flew with them until sold to the Trans Equipment Company in 1960. Exported to Colombia as HK-528 flying with SAM and later Aerotabo which became Aerolineas Medellin in 1976. The aircraft was withdrawn from use in 1978.

Ex USAF 42-72706. Became (N4988T), C-GRYZ, C9-ATF, 3D-ATF, (ZS-PAK), scrapped in 2001

Retired to MASDC May 1964. Uploaded for its rarity despite the poor quality. It appears to have a large observation window so may have been re-designated as HC-54D Rescuemaster.

Wrecked at Bilbao, Spain on 23 January 1961 when it ran off the runway.

Converted by Sabena to swing-tail configuration for Air Zaire circa1967 and later, while with Kinair Cargo as 9Q-CBK, it was destroyed in a crash near Kinshasa. No details can be found, but maybe the tail became unlatched?

Delivered to the USAAF as 42-72539, withdrawn to MASDC at Davis Monthan in 1970 and bought in 1977 by Aero Union as N65397. Sold to Soundair in Canada 1979 as C-GCXG and returned to the US in 1990 before being sold in Kenya in 1995. Registered 9Q-CLM with Transcontinental in October 1996 and joined Air Transport office in December 1996. Sold to Cargo Express Congo shortly after this photo was taken and registered as EL-WLS. Suspected of operating supply flights to UNITA rebels and impounded by the Angolan Air Force in 1998, it ended its days on the dump at Luanda and was scrapped by June 2012.
