Taken at Perth, the terminus of South African Airways' Wallaby service from Johannesburg via Mauritius and the Cocos Islands. DC-7Bs were used on the Wallaby route until 1967, but they frequently suffered from engine problems and a DC-4 was used to transport spares. South African offered a very special deal, round trip Rand to Wonderboom Airshow on their DC-4, flying different airframes on the two legs. The reason why I could not make the photos with the props turning was because I was on board!

Beautifully restored and flown by South African's Historic Flight. Flew several pleasure flights on the Friday prior to RIAT 2000.

"Outeniqua" was delivered to SAA in May 1946 and operated the long route to London until replacement by L749A Constellations from early 1950. It continued to serve the airline until 1967 when it was transferred to the SAAF as 6905.
