Delivered to South African Airways as ZS-AUB in 1946. To the SAAF as 6905 in 1967 then to the South African Airways Historic Flight as ZS-AUB in 1995. To Swissair as ZU-ILI then back to the South African Airways Historic Flight as ZS-AUB in 1997.

Having entered service in September 1967 with 44 Squadron at Waterkloof, 6905 became the final DC4 to be retired by the SAAF. Sold to the South African Airways Historic Flight in December 1995, shortly after this photo was taken. Registered ZS-AUB the aircraft went on to fly with Swissair as HB-ILI/ZU-ILI to celebrate their 50th anniversary as well as making several long haul trips including Oshkosh and Fairford. Later transferred to the SAA Museum Society and operated by Skyclass on safari charters until retired in 2018. Currently on display in the SAA museum at Rand

Taken at Perth, the terminus of South African Airways' Wallaby service from Johannesburg via Mauritius and the Cocos Islands. DC-7Bs were used on the Wallaby route until 1967, but they frequently suffered from engine problems and a DC-4 was used to transport spares.
