Volunteers members of the Toronto Aerospace Museum (TAM) build a full scale medical model of the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow at Downsview Airport between 1998 and October 2006 when the aircraft was rolled out before large crowds. The original supersonic Arrow program was cancelled by the Canadian government on February 20, 1959 and all Arrows scrapped except for a cockpit and one wing set. In Sep. 2011, the Museum was evicted from Downsview Park so the historic DHC hangar could be demolished to build a hockey rink. The Arrow model moved to YYZ on Sep. 21-22, 2013 and later to Edenvale Airport.

View of DHC aircraft factory site at Downsview Airport built in 1929-1945 looking NW in Jan. 2010. The 1929 DHC factory site is in the middle of the photo, to the right and below the road crossing the N-S railway line (see No. 429170). The larger building below (with 3 east-facing doors and 4 south-facing doors) was the wartime Anson II & Mosquito factory and postwar DHC production & MRO plant until a new factory opened in 1954. It then became RCAF Downsview & CFB Toronto until 1996. It is now part of Downsview Park. Runway 15-33 is to the right of the photo. The airport will close in 2023.

This is the prewar hangar of The de Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited at Downsview in 2016 looking NW. The original DHC brick and steel hangar built in 1929 is incorporated into the left (west) hangar bay. When DHC won a contract to build all-Canadian Tiger Moths in 1937, the hangar was extended and a second bay added to the east. If you look closely the DHC name and logo appears over the doors. This is where the 1st DHC-built Tiger Moths, DH 83C Fox Moth, DHC-1 Chipmunk, DHC-2 Beaver and DHC-3 Otter were manufactured. The original heritage building was lost during a $72 M "renovation."

Chevron USA is the only oil company still operating its own fleet of offshore helicopters in the Gulf of Mexico. The maintenance base moved from New Orleans Lakefront to Picayune (KMJD) after Hurricane Katrina. One of its long-time helicopter bases was the Chevron Heliport (8LA1) located on Tidewater Road in Venice, Louisiana at the southern end of Highway 23. The office is 12+ ft above the ground to protect it from hurricane storm surges. An AW139, Bell 429 and two Bell LongRangers were based there in 2015.

Chevron USA established a new offshore helicopter base at Galliano - South Lafourche Leonard Miller Jr. Airport in 2014 to support deepwater oil production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. The base replaced a heliport in use since the 1960s at Leeville, about 14 miles to the south, which often flooded during hurricanes. Chevron used the VHI Cougar passenger terminal at GAO until it built a base of its base. This new S-92A was just delivered from the Sikorsky factory in Coatesville, PA. The registration N249JT is on tape on the tail boom covering its new Chevron USA registration N392LS.

Canada flew two batches of McDonnell CF-101 Voodoos. The first batch of CF-101Bs entered service in 1961-62 and were returned to the USAF in 1971. The second batch of 67 CF-101F's aircraft were delivered in 1970-1971 (and one in 1982) and were retired with the delivery of new CF-18s. CF-101F 101003 was ex-USAF s/n 56-262. It served with 410 Sqn. and 425. Sqn at CFB Bagotville, Quebec and 416 Sqn at CFB Chatham, New Brunswick. It was preserved at CFB Goose Bay by 1994, but probably earlier. Avro Vulcan XL361 was on a trans-Atlantic flight from Woodford, UK to Offutt AFB in Nebraska on November 13, 1981 when it suffered an inflight fire and made an emergency landing at CFB Goose Bay, Labrador. Rather than repair the aircraft and return it to the UK, it became the gate guardian for the RAF detachment at Goose Bay, which utilized a large military practice range in Labrador. The Vulcan and a CF-101 Voodoo are displayed in a park near the airport's ATC tower. Photographed at YYR during a fuel stop while flying as a passenger in a Bombardier Q400 to the Paris Air Show.
