It changed ownership a few more times within the US before becoming C-GCTF with Canadian operator Transport Ariens in September 1982. Sold to Trans Fair a year later, finally joining Buffalo Air in September 1995. Buffalo used it as fire fighter, or, as can be seen here by the missing belly mounted fire retardant tank, as a regular freighter. Grounded since 2020 and reported to be for sale ever since.

A wonderful scene at Blackbushe in the late 1950s. The operation of the aircraft by Blue Air is confirmed by the steps. Blue air was formerly known as Independent Air Travel who changed their name early in 1959, largely due to the adverse publicity generated following the crash of G-AIJE, one of the companies Vickers Vikings, at Southall on 2nd September 1958. G-APID, which had been acquired by Independent from California Eastern Airlines in November 1957, ended its days as a snack bar in Seville and was scrapped following storm damage in 1978 (photographer Cyril Smith)

A wonderful scene at Blackbushe in the late 1950s. The operation of the aircraft by Blue Air is confirmed by the steps. Blue air was formerly known as Independent Air Travel who changed their name early in 1959, largely due to the adverse publicity generated following the crash of G-AIJE, one of the companies Vickers Vikings, at Southall on 2nd September 1958. G-APID, which had been acquired by Independent from California Eastern Airlines in November 1957, ended its days as a snack bar in Seville and was scrapped following storm damage in 1978 (photographer Cyril Smith)

Cockpit of "Spirit of Freedom," BAHF's flying museum open to visitors at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025. Built in 1945, this C-54D was delivered to the USAAF with s/n 43-17228. It is a veteran of the Berlin Airlift of 1948-49, being stationed with 61st TCS at Rhein Main, 317th TCS at Celle, 513th TCS at Rhein Main and 313th TCS at Faßberg. During the Berlin Airlift these aircraft hauled coal, which made up 65% of the tonnage, and food supplies via the three air corridors available through the Soviet Zone. Lt. Gail Halvorsen's famous candy drops to Berlin's children were from a Skymaster.

G-AREK was wet-leased from BAF by Pauling Middle East Company LLC from June 1974 to February 1976. It then entered a period of storage at Southend, as seen here. It was brought back to flying status for UNI Air in June 1977, flying to Toulouse on 6th July 1977 and receiving French registration F-BYCL the same day. Proposed contracts did not materialise and the aircraft remained stored at Toulouse for 2 years until purchased for use by Falcon Airways becoming N83FA on 4th August 1979. Sadly, it crashed into a shopping mall on take-off from Griffin, GA on 4th April 1997.
