Alongside the four-engined HP.42 (Hannibal class), HP designed a smaller, three-engine airliner that Imperial Airways didn't order, but was reworked as the HP.43 bomber-transport. The sole prototype first flew on 21 June 1932, but was found to be lacking in performance and heavy on the controls. J9833 was extensively rebuilt as a twin-engined monoplane, the HP.51, which led to the HP.54 Harrow. The original caption suggests that this nice photo was taken during the Friday rehearsal for the 1933 RAF Display, but the public don't fit the description of schoolchildren.

Avia BH-9 was a Czechoslovak training, sport and tourist aircraft which was flown on 25 November 1923. Total 11 pieces were built, of which 10 were ordered by Czechoslovak Air Force, where they were used in aviation schools until early 30s. Then some machines were transferd to Aeroclub of the Czech Republic and Masaryk Aviation League, or sold to private users. The last BH-9 flew until 1939 and now is exhibited in the original military color design in the collections of the National Technical Museum in Prague.

Blackburn wasn't the most celebrated aircraft manufacturer but the Royal Navy elected to name this type the Blackburn, after the city. It was developed from the Blackburn Dart. The RN wanted a three-seat reconnaissance/gunnery observation plane and to make room for a wireless/navigator's station, the pilot was placed above the Napier Lion engine, giving him a good view but a lot of drag as well. This is the first prototype, converted to Mk II standard with a raised upper wing - the Mk I was much uglier still. Both the Mk I and Mk II did see operational service with the Fleet Air Arm. The second of two PL-11s, this one was sometimes known as the Waitomo Airtruck. Designed by Italian-Australian Luigi Pellarini, it used T-6 Harvard components including the R-1340 engine and canopy. Both crashed, -CKE on March 1, 1967 at Maungakaramea. A lack of available T-6 parts saw Pellarini redesign it as a smaller aircraft, the PL-12, which went into series production in Australia as the Transavia Airtruk. Bob Kerr photo.
