Built by Siebelwerke-Allgemeine-Transportanlagen (SIAT) at Donauwörth, the 4 seat, all metal, SIAT 222 first flew on May 15, 1961. Displayed at that years Paris Salon, it crashed during a spin test on 29th September 1961 killing the pilot, aerobatic champion Albert Falderbaum. The design was developed into the more successful SIAT 223 Flamingo which featured a shorter fuselage, larger vertical stabiliser and redesigned wings.

Originally operated by Scottish Airlines (ex KK136) then flew with Dan-Air from 1961 until 1971. See Photo ID: 342289 for a rundown of its convoluted post-operational history.

Operated from new in 1960 and apart from several leases, stayed with Sabena until scrapped at Brussels (EBBR) in 1982.

Built in 1959 and flew with Pan Am until sale to United in 1968 as N8243U. Converted to freighter in 1977 and scrapped at Miami (KMIA) in 1985. Notice the marshaler waving him into a 180 degree turn in front of the terminal. My dream job when I was a schoolboy.

Built in 1956 and by this date it was actually registered to Seaboard World Airlines. It was sold to Capitol Airways in December 1965 and used on European IT tours on behalf of Berliner Flug Ring as per Photo ID 426268. Broken up for spares at Sebring/FL by 1975 with TT: 19758 hrs.

Built in 1960 for SAS and also flew on lease with Thai International until 1978 when it was sold to United Air Leasing as N717UA. Served several operators on lease until scrapped at Miami (KMIA) in August 1984.
