The AR-404 was designed as a rugged utility aircraft, capable of carrying 30 pax or three LD3 cargo containers. It was intended to be series produced at Aguadilla in Puerto Rico, and this example was in fact the first one built there. It first flew in 1979, three years after the first flight of the prototype N404AR (which was built and flown at Oxnard, CA). Two more airframes were completed in Puerto Rico, but these never flew

This 1949 aircraft, formerly VS618, was one of the 252 RAF-surplus Prentices bought up by Freddie Laker and ferried to his company ATEL at Southend and Stansted for conversion as 5-seater GA tourers. Despite a price tag of just £1500, only 28 were civilianised and the rest were scrapped. Since 1964 this one was owned by Alan Hilton Smith (AHS). Seen here on a winter's day being readied for flight with a departing Luftwaffe Transall incongrously framed by the mortal remains of ex-Merpati Vanguard G-BAMX

View showing to advantage the Su-22's swing wing (30/63 degree sweep). In its time this high speed, medium range, low level ground attack/recce aircraft was the most potent of its kind in the Warsaw Pact. The M-4 was final export version and was manufactured from 1983 to 1990. In 1992, just before the split, Czechoslovakia had 49 Su-22M-4s and 8 Su-22UM-3Ks. This is the unique FICON (FIghter CONveyor) modification of the prototype Thunderflash, designed to operate as a parasite fighter from a mother-ship B-36 (in fact GRB-36F) using a trapeze mechanism. Whilst technically successful, the operation was very challenging even for experienced pilots with several near disasters while unhooking or recovering. After a number of RF-84Ks were trialled by SAC in 1955-56, the project was dropped. The aircraft is now displayed indoors in the 91st SRS markings carried in the mid-1950s

The Gendarmerie Royale (Royal State Security Forces) displayed four machines - this Puma, an Ecureuil, a Trinidad and an Ayers Thrush sprayer. Typical of the friendly and informative crews with each aircraft, here they didn't mind helping to temporarily shift the barriers for a better shot
