One of the few postwar production DC-4s (not a C-54) arriving at Oakland on September 18, 1946 for the inaugural landing of ANA in the U.S. Since landing rights had not yet been granted, the plane merely stopped for fuel, and continued on to Vancouver where passengers disembarked. The passengers were later greeted by the press and given a luncheon at Oakland Airport during their layover in commemoration of the flight.

Built in 01.45 for USAAF as C-54D 42-72442 and here painted thus in 1992. To RAF in 02.45 as KL977 and flown by 232 Squadron on regular Ceylon-Australia flights. Returned to USA in 1946 and allotted to US Navy as 91994. Stored at Davis Monthan 07.70. Bought by Aero Union and became N76AU in 01.76. Used as tanker until sold to Aero Flite in 10.01. Operational in 02.18 as N3054V with Alaska Air Fuel at age 73. Sadly, this aircraft, with its two crew, was lost in a crash immediately after take-off from Fairbanks, Alaska on 23 April 2024. By then, it was the last DC-4 flying commercially in the USA.

This C-54 is a Berlin Airlift veteran and after her time in Germany served at Olmsted AFB, PA before being retired to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in 1964. Fortunately she was saved, from what would have been an earth-shattering end, by the Museum of Aviation in 1984.

Built for USAAF in June 1945 as 45-0481. Stored at Davis Monthan in 07.73 and bought by Aero Union in 11.78. Converted to tanker. Operated by Hemet Valley FS as '166' from 10.85 until sale to Hawkins & Powers in 01.93. Still operational with them in 04.07 when 62 years old and still currently registered in 2018.

Having arrived on the schedule from Le Bourget, F-BELP is towed to a wartime dispersal pan for the night, still 'flying the flag' from its cockpit windows. Passengers from a domestic flight walk unescorted along the apron edge as the port engine of BEA Viking 1B G-AMNJ is revved up. All was delightfully easy going in those long past days!

Ex USAAF 45-0629. Stored at Davis-Monthan 1973 and bought by Aero Union. in 08.78 and converted to tanker. Crashed on approach to Ramona CA on 21st June 1995.

"Clipper Racer" soon after repainting in Pan Am's second postwar scheme with white top and larger 'PAA' on the fin. Ex USAAF C-54G 45-534, converted by Douglas to civil C54G-DC in 1947 (conversion #80) and delivered to Pan Am in May 1947. Returned to the USAF in November 1953 as 45-534. Stored at DM from September 1972 and broken up. Obtained from Pan Am in the 1950s.

Built for USAAF as C-54E 44-9063. Converted by Douglas to DC-4 standard in 1946 for Pan American as N88887. Sold to Swissair as HB-ILU in April 1952. Transferred to Balair in 1959. To EI-ARS with Aer Turas in 1969.

Operated by the US Naval Test Pilot School in the transport role, based at Patuxent River. Built in 1945 and retired in the 1970's. Later C-GDWZ with Millardair.

OD-ADK's visit to Sydney was a case of returning home. It had been built as a DC-4 for Australian National Airways (VH-ANB). ANA's new-build DC-4s were factory-fitted with the C-54-style double cargo doors, which was an option offered by Douglas. -ODK was sold by TMA in Gabon 1971.

In August 1996 Essendon Airport held an Open Day to celebrate its 75th anniversary. One of the aircraft present was the only DC-4 (C-54) still flying in Australia at the time. Delivered to USAAF in 1945 as 44-9126, & not put into storage at Davis Monthan till 1971. Sold in 1975 & reg N9013V, passing through numerous owners. Arrived Australia in June 1995 & re-reg VH-PAF 31 January 1996. Donated to HARS June 2008 & re-reg VH-EAY 23 June 2008. Under long-term rebuild to fly.

Just back from the paintshop at Kingman, AZ, this aircraft looked sharp in the desert morning sun. Now with ARDCO titles. Airworthy in 2018 and based at Castle Airport in Atwater, California on a standby oil dispersant contract.

By the mid-1970's, all DC-4's, DC-7's and M202's had been scrapped.

One of five DC-4s stored by Biegert at Chandler. A very large and unfriendly dog guarded four of these aircraft making photography a very nervous endeavor!

Fat Annie made an appearance at the 2005 World Free Fall Convention. With engines running, the last of 100+ sky divers board through the nose door. They exited through the rear door during two passes of the airport drop zone.
