The Imperial War Museums gives the location of this photo as "Holland, late 1944". There is debate that this aircraft was shot down on September 14, 1944. The confusion is whether this aircraft or EJ695 was W2-Y. At the time 80 Squadron was based in Belgium. This photo clearly shows EJ705 was W2-X. EJ705 is also shown as lost on March 11, 1945 at Volkel. That scenario better fits the IWM date and location. Photo from: Imperial War Museums

The Bristol 173 was intended as an airliner helicopter but G-AMJI was tested by the military as XH379 from September 1954 until September 1956, just before it crashed. We found that the Big Ben was in scaffolding from early 1955 until the spring of 1957 to repair damage from Luftwaffe bombing. The last BEA helicopter flight from the Waterloo Air Terminal was on 31 May 1956 but we are not sure when the heliport closed. Photo from: Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

Official handover of the first four F-84Fs to the Netherlands air force. The US and Dutch serials are above and below the Dutch flag on the tail and can just be read in the full-resolution photo. The squadron code of 311 Sqn was PP and the squadron colour was red. Then with 315 Sqn, this Streak crashed into a house in Aalst near Eindhoven on 24 February 1959, killing a woman. The aircraft came out of a spin after the pilot ejected. Photo by: Harry Pot / Nationaal Archief (Netherlands)

The Vildebeest prototypes had many different engines and got a new type number each time. Here the first prototype is the Type 209 with a Jupiter XIF engine and a civilian registration issued for visiting the 1930 Paris Air Show. A few months later it was successfully tested with the Jupiter XFBM, which became the Pegasus. For export it also got a Hispano-Suiza 12L and floats. The June 1930 date given for that seems to be wrong. Is this Brooklands with those ramshackle hangars? Photo from: Vickers

A3325 in its original configuration with no sweep-back on the wings. This was quickly added to correct handling problems. The 18T was a fast aircraft and the US Navy used it and sistership A3326 for racing as late 1922. A3325 was lost in an accident. Photo from: The Elizabeth S. The third Viscount, first flown on 28 August 1950 from Brooklands which still had a grass runway at that time. The aircraft wore a Vickers livery in 1952 and 1953 and again from March 1955. Details seem to date the photo in the later period. Military serial WB499 was issued to cover high speed trials in 1956, but does not seem to have been worn. Photo from: Vickers

The sole example of the Vickers 207, designed against Specification M.1/30 for a carrier-capable torpedo bomber to replace the Blackburn Ripon. As such it was a fairly large biplane, powered by an 825-hp RR Buzzard engine. The photo is thought to have been taken before its first flight on 11 January 1933. Later it wore its assigned serial S1641 and Hendon show code 6. Crashed on 23 November 1933 when the starboard wings failed during trials with a full load. Photo from: Vickers
