Airbus is offering their H135 for the U.S. Navy's planned helicopter trainer replacement program. A demonstrator machine was first displayed in Navy trainer colors at the 2018 Naval Helicopter Association Symposium in Norfolk, Va. It's pictured giving demonstration flights at HAI-Heli-Expo 2019 in Atlanta.

The BTD-1 Destroyer had excellent performance and was intended as the successor to the Helldiver. However, the type arrived too late to see any action in WWII with '4959' being the only survivor of the 30 (26 BTD-1s) built. This aircraft had long been in the Florence Air & Missile Museum collection and then moved to the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center, Elmira-Corning Regional Airport, Elmira, New York. It is currently undergoing restoration at the Hixson Flight Museum in Rome, Georgia. Alas much to my great disappointment she still had her winter tarps on as my visit was so early in the season.

This photo also gives an indication of what the ramps were like at the old Atlanta terminal. It is hard to believe that Eastern ever went bust when you look at the activity here.

This classic piston-engined airliner was seen at Atlanta amidst the jets.

By 1981 this former Panagra DC-7 served as the "DC-7 Steak House" on the southwest corner of Georgia Highway 49 and Interstate 75 near Byron, GA, complete with outdoor terrace and swimming pool. Its tail plane and the wings outboard the #2 and #3 engines were removed, but otherwise it was complete and in good condition. The aircraft carried no registration or titles, but still had "700" on the nosewheel doors. The facility stayed open for a few years only, and by 1988 it had fallen in disuse and the aircraft had become a derelict. It was broken up a short while later. Originally N6185X. Seized by US Marshals after accident in New Mexico while drug running in 1975. Taken on charge by the United States Air Force as 63-7948 in 1980 and reportedly operated by the US Customs as N37948. To the museum in 1987. Scrapped around 2013.
