The DC-3 was built in 1938. In that same year, Bachmann, Blumenthal & Co Flugzeugbau (BBF) began manufacture of aircraft parts at this airfield, taking over a Gotha plant. Nuremberg's commercial airport was then Marienberg, which took over from the old Fürth / Nuremberg - Atzenhof airport in 1933. Assembled by Fokker, this DC-3 was delivered to Swissair in October 1938. Serving until 1955, the airliner went to Ozark Airlines registered N2817D. Registered N143D after 1957, the aircraft also added a cargo door and Pratt & Whitney R-1830 engines sometime after arriving in the USA. Traded to Fairchild when Ozark bought FH-227s, a few short term owners followed before Airline Aviation Academy (Academy Airlines) bought it in 1974. Sold to a private owner in 2003, it remains based at Griffin, GA. Seen here promoting the Gold Seal Ground School flight training school.

Delivered to Swissair as DC-3-227A HB-IRO in 1938. To N2817D in 1955 then to N143D and modified to a DC-3A. Still current on the register in 2020.
