Built for the USAAF as 42-72636, but immediately diverted to the Navy as Bu56514. Served with them until transferred to MASDC in Oct 1965. Remained stored there until Apr 1975, when it was sold on the civil market as N67062. The next year this DC-4 was converted to airtanker (with belly tank) and based at Avra Valley as Tanker 148. Withdrawn from use there in the early 1990s and stored. On 19 Jan 2002 it was flown from Avra Valley to March ARB on delivery to the museum. Between 2005 and 2008 it was slowly repainted in these markings.

ex. N6402, ZS-CIH, LX-SAF. To EI-APK, N6304D. Shannon Air was a short lived Airline from May 1964-Feb.1966 that specialized in passenger & freight charters. On collapse of the company this aircraft (on lease from the Universal Trading Corp.)was impounded by the BAA in lieu of debts.

This aircraft, one of two that had been in open storage since 2002, looked to be in good condition. The other was broken up in 2017 but this one is in far better condition. There are plans to return it to the air, though that will be a very costly exercise.

Seen at the Flypast Magazine fly-in. This aircraft had been in open storage for some considerable time. It was painted to resemble a USAF C-54, but in fact this machine never saw any military service at all. It was scrapped in 2019 but the nose section was preserved at Burtonwood.

Ex N1022A and 45-0502 (USAF) of origin. In Jun 2004 it went to the Hill Aerospace Museum, Ogden UT and was painted as 45-502 (it's original military serial). Still there in 2020.

This aircraft has been in open storage at North Weald for many years. It was eventually scrapped at North Weald but the nose section was saved and preserved at Burtonwood.

Behind the Netherlands Government Air Transport C-54 is PK-DSC, one of four Skymasters delivered to the Netherlands Indies air force in 1946. Given civil registrations, they were briefly used by the resurrected KNILM airline for a Batavia (Jakarta) - Los Angeles service through Biak, Kwajalein and Honolulu - total flying time, almost 50 hours! NL-305 and PK-DSC to KLM in August 1947 as PH-TAG and TSC, respectively. We think the photo must have been taken at Kemayoran and the hedges do show in some other pictures. Delivered to the USAF as 43-17253 in October 1945 and also operated for the Navy as 56549. Transferred to NAS Guantanama (Cuba) around 1971-1972. To air Response in July 1986 as N99AS. Stored at Falcon Field between 1997 and 2002. Later acquired by Brooks Air Fuel (Alaska), but the aircraft never left the airport. It was scrapped around MArch/April 2010, althought the cockpit and forward fuselage were preserved. Those parts were seen at Concrete (WA) in July 2012.

To NASA as NASA 238 (July 1962), NASA 438 (1964) and N438NA (1969). Remained N438NA with Aircraft Specialties (March 1981), Globe Air (July 1981), Air Response (March 1986) and Brooks Air Fuel (August 20009).
