Allocated BuNo. 44248 but given RAF serial JX630 prior to becoming A24-385 with the RAAF in 1945, this Catalina gained fame in 1951 as the first aircraft to cross the South Pacific between Australia and South America, from Rose Bay in Sydney to Valparaiso in Chile. It is one of only two surviving non-amphibious Catalinas. Accepted into the Museum of Applied Art and Sciences in 1961. The museum was renamed Powerhouse in the late 1970s and closed in February 2024 for three years of major redevelopment.

The AURI received six PBY-5s in 1951, but this is not one of them. In fact it was delivered to the USN as BuNo 46539, bought by Charlotte Aircraft Corp in 1954 and registered N1563M. It was stored in the open at Elizabeth City, NC till 1985. Rebuilt to airworthy status in private hands by 1990 but not flown, it was instead shipped to the Central Museum of the Indonesian AF (in exchange for the right to recover several Japanese aircraft wrecks). This Catalina was delivered to the Colombian Air Force as FAC612 in 1946. It was struck of charge by the FAC in 1974, but it had already been stored at the Bogota-Madrid airbase for several years by then. A private Colombian pilot purchased the aircraft together with former FAC619 and restored the aircraft in airworthy condition using parts from FAC619 as well. From 2003 until 2017 the aircraft deteriorated at Villavicencio. In December 2017 the aircraft was shipped to Germany and currently is being restored to flying condition by its new owner in Oldenburg.

This Catalina was delivered to the Colombian Air Force as FAC612 in 1946. It was struck of charge by the FAC in 1974, but it had already been stored at the Bogota-Madrid airbase for several years by then. A private Colombian pilot purchased the aircraft together with former FAC619 and restored the aircraft in airworthy condition using parts from FAC619 as well. From 2003 until 2017 the aircraft deteriorated at Villavicencio. In December 2017 the aircraft was shipped to Germany and currently is being restored to flying condition by its new owner in Oldenburg.

Originally bu 48423 with the US Navy during World War II, this Catalina was registered N4002A when sold surplus. Registered CF-JJG with Survair circa 1965, the aircraft worked twenty years mostly surveying for metal deposits. Later with Canadian Aero Service and Spartan Aero Services it was acquired by Kenting in 1976. To the USA as N423RS in 1986, it flew as an RAF warbird (and a time with Greenpeace in the late 90s). Owned by the Tunison Foundation since 2017, the aircraft is undergoing a restoration at the time of uploading as funds permit.

It's a huge surprise to spot this one during dinner our time via FR24 around KLAF, but unfortunately it's heading to Frankort not KLAF. After driving for about 40 min from Lafayette to Frankfurt, we were finally able to see this beauty sitting quietly under the starry night. Background is the typical Corn Field and houses. The quiet & clear rural atmosphere inspired me to take a shot like this underneath the star curtain.
