During the late 1950s, the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland started the construction of the Kariba Dam to build power stations to support the infrastructure of what today is Zambia and Zimbabwe. The dam was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother on 17 May 1960. The flag on the car is her personal standard. On delivery to South African from Cubana in that airline's livery. On 13 March 1967 the aircraft came to grief while operating SA046 on approach to East London.

VP-WGC was the first Viscount to join Air Zimbabwe after independence. It was delivered to Salisbury, now Harare, in May 1981 still in the livery of the previous operator Dan-Air. Before that it had served with British Midland and Ghana Airways.

First flown 5 May 1956 and delivered to Central African Airways 17 May. When the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland was dissolved and Malawi and Zambia gained independence, CAA became a holding company and the Viscounts operated with nameplates for the new airlines; Air Malawi, Air Rhodesia, and Zambia Airways. To Air Malawi as 7Q-YKO 1 January 1968, 1 January 1968 to Air Rhodesia as VP-YKB, to Air Zimbabwe Rhodesia June 1979, name changed to Air Zimbabwe February 1980. Re-registered Z-YNB October 1983.
