This is in fact 43-49507, the last C-47 in routine USAF service and arrived at the National Museum of the USAF for display in 1975. It is painted to represent the C-47A flown by 2nd Lt. Gerald 'Bud' C. Berry of the 91st Troop Carrier Squadron, 439th Troop Carrier Group, to recover gliders used in the D-Day invasion. On 22nd March 1945, Lt. Berry used that aircraft to recover a glider filled with wounded soldiers at Remagen, Germany.

VH-CIN is not an official reg, so this aircraft must presumably have been flying under its military serial A65-71, even though this was not painted on.

Although registered to Skyway International the Florida Air Cargo titles are still clearly visible above the cheatline. Has the girl on the Pat's Mail Express (PME) nose art been erased or has she just faded away with time? Hard to tell.

Incorrectly reported by some sources as c/n 20472. This C-47A was present at Naples in March and April 1989, before becoming N8160Z with the Collier County Mosquito Control District in April 1989. It was cancelled in February 1996 due to corrosion, and had been reduced to a wingless fuselage by 1998. That fuselage was scrapped in 2005.

This C-47 served with the USAAF as 42-92509 then passed to the as RAF KG320. Post-war she had a spell in Canada with TERRA Mining and Exploration as CF-BVF and Icarus Aviation as C-FBVF. She came to the Planes of Fame Museum in Jan. 2009 and is now positioned as a quasi-gate-guard welcoming visitors to this superb collection of aeroplanes.

Delta Air Transport's DC-3s,DC-6Bs and Convairs were an attractive addition to the scene in the Low Countries in the early Seventies, and the DC-3 didn't look out of place.

Coming in with the classic DC-3 nose down look as it prepares to touch down on Runway 14.

The aircraft has acquired its previous USAF serial on the fin, 268823. It carries unusual Royal Norwegian AF / RAF No. 20 Transport Squadron markings, only briefly carried in Norway between June 1945 and Feb 1946. This Squadron, unrelated to the RAF's 20 Squadron, was a continuation of the Luftwaffe's 20 Transportfliegergeschwader. Formally controlled by the RAF, this was the first step in re-establishing civil aviation in Norway post-war, using several DC-3s and Lockheed L-18 Lodestars. In 1946 the DC-3s were transferred to DNL, Norway's main pre-war airline, one of the predecessors of SAS.
