Altough their numbers were already declining, Boeing 707s in pax configuration were still a regular sight during the mid and late 1980s. El Al was one of the carriers that still used the type on their passenger services during that time. 4X-ATX remained in the fleet until 1987, after which Arkia continued to operate it for seven more years. It was sold to Zaire as 9Q-CVG in 1994, and permanently withdrawn from use in early 1998. It finally met the breaker's axe at Kinshasa during 2001.

It was great to see a few Boeing 707s at Sharjah. This example looks to be in very good condition though it has not apparently flown for some time. Let us hope that it is able to take to the sky again one day. Update. It did fly again but was destroyed by fire at Istanbul on 22nd December 2005.

It was taken from what was one the best photographic spots at Sydney airport in the 1960s, a wide and elevated sewer main spanning the Cooks River close to the runway centreline. The sewer is still there but it and the area around it are off-limits
