A Balloon festival was held at Wollaton Park, Nottingham as part of the Nottingham Festival. Whilst it was a great success it was only held in 1970, 1971 and 1972. A planned event for 1973 was cancelled due to budget cuts.
VH-FNB was delivered to the Ansett group in December 1959. It flew with several airlines in the group before being sold in 1977 in Indonesia as PK-MFP. At the time of the photo it had recently emerged from the paint shop in the Ansett group's "delta" livery.
Seen as part of a balloon display as part of the Nottingham Festival, this balloon, made its first flight at Cardington on 21st May 1941 though it was not registered until 1965. It did not fly at the show. Though the register shows this to be a hot-air balloon it is clearly a gas balloon. It is seen weighted down with sand-bags and the magnificent Wollaton Hall is visible in the background.
