This photo was taken at a rather wet and dreary Flight into History / C-47 Dakota Close-Out ceremony held at Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg, March 31, 1989.

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of 435 Squadron, the Canadian Forces unveiled this C-47, serial 12949, in the colours used by 435 Sqn during the Burma Campaign. The serial KG788 is fake, this aircraft actually was KJ956 (later 12949). The unveiling took place on May 24, 2014 in hangar 16 at 17 Wing in Winnipeg, and in mid September 2014 the aircraft was returned to its old spot next to the Stevenson Parade Square, as seen in this photo. RAF 435 and 436 Squadrons were based in India during the Burma Campaign beginning in 1944, and were critical to getting supplies to difficult areas due to terrain, weather and lack of transportation infrastructure.

Ex N116DT. The registration is incorrectly painted as CG-JGQ. It arrived at the museum in Feb 2002. Sadly in 2011 it was seen with the forward fuselage chopped off and put on a trolley with the remainder dumped out on the grass. In 2012 the remainder had gone, presumably for scrap.

This aircraft was painted in its Second World War colours (European) for a pre-retirement cross-country tour and represented the aircraft flown by RCAF 437 Squadron in 1944-45. At the end of the tour the aircraft was presented to the Comox Air Force Museum for static display.

The aircraft was also known by the military as the "Manitoba Flyer". For the retirement ceremonies and a preceding cross-country tour, the aircraft was repainted in the colours it wore in Burma while serving with RAF 435 and 436 Squadrons.

Originally C-47 42-68766 that went to Eastern Airlines via the Reconstruction Finance Corp, this DC-3 has had more owners than space allows to list here. Owned by actor John Travolta for a very short time in the late 70s, it's pictured still with JTP DC-3 (John Travolta Productions) titles. Privately owned when substantially damaged during Hurricane Wilma on October 24, 2005 at Opa-locka Airport, FL. The fuselage was moved to Shell Creek Airpark, Punta Gorda, FL where it remains.

Geophysical survey aircraft with, obviously, a long history. Originally a 1944 C-47, she saw military and civil use, was converted to C-117 standard and even put on display in the 1970s, but brought back into air freight operations. Apart from the sensors at the nose, the 'Turbo Dak' was fitted here with a Magnetic Anomaly Detection boom at the tail.
