It crashed during a STOL landing demonstration in blustery wind conditions. Luckily it only resulted in bent metal with, as you can see, everyone climbing out and walking away. I couldn't get shots of it actually crashing including the momentary fireball as I had to duck to avoid propeller segments flying our way. At least one of the segments smashed a canopy of a military aircraft on static display behind us! See here for all photos.

Prototype Akrostar MK.II. The number 27 related to its recent participation in the World Aerobatic Championships at Hullavington. The famous pilot Neil Williams somehow survived a wing failure in his Zlin 526 Akrobat G-AWAR during a practice session 5 June for these championships. Later preserved at the Deutsches Museum - Flugwerft Schleissheim in a red and white livery.

An enjoyable day, especially arriving in style from Shoreham in the Air UK Piper Aztec 250C G-AYLY seen in the left background. I think it's a shame that this relatively rare type was subsequently converted back to a standard DH82A Tiger Moth.
