Older Potez XV A2 reconnaissance aircraft, used as trainers, including 428 / A3, 449 / A4, 451 /E1 and 447 / E4. Photo dated 1935 which would just be possible both for the Potez XVs and the Junkers F13s in the background. Cropped photo; the wingtip in the foreground is of 435 / A1. We are grateful for any information about the prewar Polish serial numbers and unit code systems. Photo from: Narodowe Archiwum Cyfrowe

Poland received 110 Potez XV A2 reconnaissance aircraft and XV B2 light bombers from France from 1924. Another 100 A2s were built by Plage i Laśkiewicz and 35 by PWS. From 1927 until about 1935 they were used as trainers and the photo is dated 1935 by the source. We are assuming that construction numbers were used as serials by the Polish military, as in France and Germany. Cropped photo; 437 / A2 and others are in the background. 'The Potez aircraft of Marmier.' Four-passenger airliner of CFRNA, the French-Romanian airline, which from September 1922 operated a Paris to Bucharest service via Strasbourg, Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Arad - a really long haul at that time. French ace Lionel de Marmier worked for this company and also for Potez. CFRNA became CIDNA in 1925. It is safe to assume that the aircraft name is Regina Maria - Queen Maria of Romania did a lot to bring her country into World War I on the Allied side. First flown in May 1923, the Bloodhound was two-seat reconnaissance fighter which was not successful. Four examples were built. The prototype, G-EBGG, initially had smaller tail surfaces. The wings were also tweaked. It ended up as test bed for the Bristol Jupiter VI engine - photo probably taken on 8 March 1926 after flying 25,074 miles without replacement of its Jupiter VI, 'under official ubservation' by Imperial Airways. The pilots are Dan Minchin and Charles Barnard, left. Both men became fans of the Jupiter-powered Fokker F.VIIa and made long-distance flights with Lady Anne Savile and 'The Flying Duchess' Mary of Bedford, respectively. Minchin and Anne died in a westbound Atlantic crossing attempt. Photo from: Bristol
