This is a replica of the S-38B "Carnuba" that was used by the S.C Johnson Co. to survey and acquire Carnuba Palms in South America for the family's wax business. The aircraft was constructed by Born Again Restorations in 1998 and registered to S.C. Johnson & Son Inc. on 12 August 1998. At the time of upload it is on display at the company headquarters in Racine, Wisconsin. FAA registration N6V is still active as of 2024.

Osa's Ark in her element

Colonial Western Airways operated the Sikorsky S-38 between Albany and Cleveland. In 1928 it became a division of the Colonial Airways Corporation holding, together with Colonial Air Transport and Canadian Colonial Airways, but all three airlines continued to operate under their own names. Colonial Western was fully merged into American Airways in March 1931. That same month this amphibian was used for rescue work following the sinking of an old sealing ship, SS Viking, off the Horse Islands, Newfoundland, during a movie shoot. 2001-built airworthy replica of the 1928 original S-38 amphibious design. The S-38B is a 10-seater version and was used by civil and military operators. This example is now (2018) owned by Kermit Weeks at Polk City FL.
