At the height of the Border War and the UN sanctions against South Africa, SAA Air Cargo painted ZS-SAH in this very discrete and anonymous colour scheme to minimize all connection to the RSA. The registration is black on dark blue and almost invisible. The aircraft flew all over Europe and parts of Africa.

ZS-SBD in first livery carried by the 727s of SAA. It is named after the longest river in South Africa, Orange or Oranje in Afrikaans. It carried the English name on one side and the Afrikaans the other. Photographer unknown

SAA named its 707 fleet after the main cities in the Republic of South Africa. South West Africa was under South African administration between 1915 and 1990 and for all practical purposes a fifth province. Naming ZS-EKV Windhoek is in line with that principle.

This 737 spent its entire career in Southern Africa. First flown at Boeing Field 7 April 1970, it was delivered to South African Airways 15 April, remaining with the airline until sold to Comair 1 August 1992. During the late 1950s, the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland started the construction of the Kariba Dam to build power stations to support the infrastructure of what today is Zambia and Zimbabwe. The dam was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother on 17 May 1960. The flag on the car is her personal standard.
