The 'Balbo', the finale of Flying Legends 2011 with 27 aircraft taking part. The Red Bull P-38 Lightning and Corsair OE-EAS are seen breaking away after the first pass. This spectacular sight and sound always ends Legends but unfortunately a P-51 Mustang and Skyraider collided on a subsequent pass that year

The Rolls-Royce Merlin 63 of "Mylcraine" getting some summer sunshine and TLC at Duxford. Combat veteran MH434 went into action with No. 222 Sqn. in Aug. 1943 and shot down or damaged four Luftwaffe fighters in three weeks. It later flew with No. 349 Sqn. After the war, the Spitfire served with Royal Netherlands Air Force No. 322 Sqn. and saw action in Indonesia. After returning to the UK, it featured in "Operation Crossbow", "Battle of Britain" and "A Bridge Too Far".

On display at IWM Duxford. The peculiar shaped Gannet had cranked wings and tail finlets, hardly looking aerodynamic but it served well in the RN carrier search and strike role. The aircraft was powered by an Armstrong Siddeley Double Mamba 101 engine with complicated gearing that drove contra-rotating four-bladed Rotol propellers. Double-folding wings in a 'Z' shape were another interesting feature. As Gannets started to be withdrawn by 1960, they got a new lease of life with 831 RNAS as refurbished AS.6s for electronic warfare. When fitted with equipment updates, they became ECM.6s.
