Delivered to the USAAF as 42-72220 in June 1944, transferred directly to the US Navy as R5D-1 Bu. No. 39172. Then to Northwest Airlines as NC49529 in 1946, leased to Pacific Overseas Airlines as N49529 in 1948. Joined Icelandair in 1962, from February 1963 as TF-FID. Four years later, it moved to South Africa and joined Africair/Wenela Air Services as ZS-FCK. After a short tenure, it was leased by Botswana National Airways as VQ-ZEG, later A2-ZEG. The following year it returned to South Africa as ZS-FCK with Protea Airways - Protea Lugdiens. Swazi Air leased it in October 1970 as VQ-ZJN and from May 1971 as 3D-AAL.

The bizjet was registered in Zaire as 9Q-CHC shortly afterwards, and after it returned to the FAA register as N40LB, it crashed after take-off from Lincoln NE on 25/SEP/73.

The aircraft was built in 1969 and was w/o after it struck the terrain during a fire fighting mission near Bastia (F) on 4 July 1970 killing all on board. As no fleet number is applied this picture is probably taken before or on delivery to France. Photo via G. Bouma

slide scan from the NK collection. - YU-ADR was an ex-Lufthansa Metropolitan, which was acquired by JAT in spring 1969 and flown by the company until 1973. Sold to a corporate operator as N985, the aircraft was dbr in a take off accident at Cairo in October 1976.

Joined the Papua New Guinea register as P2-CME in 1974. Returned to Australia and the Australian register in 1975.
