The CA-3, CA-6 and CA-8 variants of the Airsedan looked much more elegant than the CA-5, having a small tapered lower wing. This aircraft advertises Signal Oil's Purr Pull Gasoline, a high-grade purple-coloured fuel. One of NC9629's owners was Bankline Oil, but it doesn't seem that this company owned Signal Oil. The last listed owner is Los Angeles Aircraft at then LA Municipal Airport, now LAX. The plane was seized by customs in 1933. Photo from: University of Southern California

Morane Saulnier 130 was a trainer aircraft produced in France in the 1920s; 146 were produced and were used for civilian and military duties. This one was certainly written off after this bad landing. Photo from Littolff family album and published with her permission.

Bellancas made amazing long-distance flights. Cape Cod flew 8066 km (5012 miles) non-stop from New York to Istanbul in July 1931, piloted by Russell Boardman and John Polando. Photo dated September 1930 by the source but the aircraft, then wearing 'The 1930 American Legion Convention' titles, was severely damaged by fire on 4 September 1930. Repairs cost of $25,000. The Canadian air force used civil-style registrations on aircraft operated in roles such as aerial survey and fire patrols. Those still in service when this system ended were given military serials. G-CYVG became 608. Photo from: Library and Archives Canada

RAAF had its Seagull III fleet refurbished at Cockatoo Island in an effort to extend the life of the aircraft, which were being operated off Australian navy ships. A9-6 was scrapped in 1934. The backdrop to this photo is the Sydney suburb of Balmain, the dome peeking over the hilltop on the left being the courthouse. Photo from: State Library of Victoria
