Deployed to several locations, including Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, and Yokota Air Base, Japan, and flew missions over the Soviet Union. 10/66: SOC. Donated to the city of Salina, KS; displayed with the International Society of Vehicle Preservation, Salina Airport (ex-Schilling AFB). The aircraft was vandalized and deteriorated badly over the years. 1998: Acquired by the Air Force Museum and began restoration. The nose section and engines were acquired from B-47E 52-0410. 3/03: Restoration completed and placed on display.

26 Mar 1956: TOS USAF; assigned to 308th Bombardment Wing, Hunter AFB, GA. Unknown date: 98th BW, Lincoln AFB, NE, from which it made its last flight on 7 Dec 1965. It landed at Wichita Airport and turned over to the Mayor. 12/69: Mounted on concrete pole on the west side of town. 16 Mar 1988:Transferred to McConnell AFB, KS, in the charge of the 184th BW. They did some basic restoration and mounted the plane on short pedestals on the base. 7/99: Removed from the pedestals and taken to a hangar for a thorough restoration. 10/99: Moved to a new position in the McConnell Air Park on Rock Road.

The plane spent its career as a test bed, being first assigned to the USAF Air Development Center, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH and used for terrain signals and photo-reconnaissance work. 1965: Flight Test Center, Edwards AFB, CA. 1967: ADC, Wright-Patterson AFB; redesignated JB-47E and a fly-by wire system was installed. 1969: Landed at Wright Field; placed in storage for the Air Force Museum. 8/71:Placed on display. 2003: Removed from display. 9/12 to 1/13: Disassembled and shipped in sections to the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History in Albuquerque, NM.

Spent its entire career as a flying test bed. 1954: Transferred to Chanute AFB, IL for maintenance and familiarization training. 1994: Placed on display with the Chanute Air Museum. 31 Oct 2015: The museum closed and the following year this plane was transported to the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum at Edwards AFB, CA.
