A C-130 and an H-21 of the 21th Composite Wing, likely at their home base, Elmendorf. The C-130 wears the 21th CW's sword badge on the tailfin and the Firebird badge of the 17th Tactical Airlift Squadron on the forward fuselage. It operated as a ski-equipped C-130D in Antarctica in 1960. It later changed to a very different environment, having been sold to Honduras, and crashed in the jungle on 14 August 1986. A C-135B at Rota in the 1960s. First flown on 21 June 1962, this aircraft was converted to an RC-135M in 1967 and was still active as an RC-135W in 2022, 60 years old. The Neptune, BuNo 148352, was delivered to VP-56 at Norfolk, tail code LQ, in 1961. A-3 Skywarriors are also seen. The station hack C-45 in the foreground is BuNo 67213, about which little information is available. Photo from: Naval History and Heritage Command

The SB-3 submarine hunter was developed from the SA-1 Sturgeon but it was not the 'Sturgeon SB Mk 3'. The nose housed two radar operators above the radar itself. Seen on its first flight, WF632 was the only SB-3 to fly. Powered by two Mamba turboprops, the aircraft had lost the good handling of the Sturgeon and proved impossible to trim for safe flight on one engine. The project was cancelled before the second prototype was completed. Photo from: Short

The story of these two Vampire trainers in Syrian markings, 493 (c/n 15768) and 494, is unclear to us. Apparently the real customer was Egypt but the Suez Crisis prevented delivery and a DH.115 production list says 'scrapped'. However, another photo shows 493 at Luqa, Malta in 'early 1960', still in Syrian markings. Is this Hatfield or Hawarden? Photo from: Hawker Siddeley
