The story of these two Vampire trainers in Syrian markings, 493 (c/n 15768) and 494, is unclear to us. Apparently the real customer was Egypt but the Suez Crisis prevented delivery and a DH.115 production list says 'scrapped'. However, another photo shows 493 at Luqa, Malta in 'early 1960', still in Syrian markings. Is this Hatfield or Hawarden? Photo from: Hawker Siddeley
