The SG-38 is a German primary training glider from 1938 that was built in large numbers by several manufacturers and gliding clubs. This one was built by Petera, but its German registration is unknown. It was captured in 1945 by allied troops and was one of the almost 300 that ended up in France. Also its French registration is currently unknown. From 1947 most of them were broken-up or destroyed, and by 2018 only 9 remained in France. This one was restored in 2013 by the Espace Air Passion museum.

Octave Chanute in the USA was quite successful with his 1896 glider. In 1904 a slightly different version was built for the Saint Louis Exposition where it was flown daily from Oct. 7 to 25. After that it was shipped to France where it is now in the Musée de l'Air in Paris. The one shown here is a replica built by Carsten Brinkmeier, finished in Jun-2006. A few flight attempts were made, but for safety reasons no full flight was made. In Oct-2006 it was handed over to the Deutsches Segelflugmuseum at Wasserkuppe.

The museum says that this is a Chanute 1896 replica, built in 1979 by Roger Adam, and loaned from the RSA since 1998. However, it doesn't really resemble a Chanute although it is clearly based on its design.

Designed as a heavy bomber, the F.60 Goliath with its bus-like fuselage was easily transformed into an important early airliner, seating up to twelve passengers. The second prototype, painted green, departed Paris in the morning of 12 August 1919 and landed at Soesterberg 3.5 hours later, bound for Copenhagen. As F-GEAD this plane was involved in the world's first mid-air collision between airliners, with DH.18A G-EAWO over Picardie on 7 April 1922. All seven people on board the two planes lost their lives. Photo from: Nederlands Instituut voor Militaire Historie

The ESG-29 is a single-seat primary training glider from 1929 that flew in many countries. Large numbers have been built, also by gliding clubs. It had the nickname "Schädelspalter" (skullsplitter) because of the strut in front of the pilot, but no such occurrences have been reported. The one seen here is an airworthy replica built by Klaus Heyn and handed over to the Deutsches Segelflugmuseum at Wasserkuppe in 1988.

This aircraft was the last Twin Pioneer built but not completed. It hung around the back of the factory for many years. It was allocated the registration G-ASAL but did not take it up and it has since been allocated to another Scottish Aviation product, namely a Bulldog which is based here. Also seen in the shot are the remains of a RCAF C-45 Expeditor which were a common sight at Prestwick in the 1960s.

Helicopter designed by Dutch engineer Albert Gillis von Baumhauer. A short first flight was made on 5 September 1925 and a more substantial one on 10 February 1926. The vehicle featured a tail rotor, powered by its own engine, but lacking pitch control. Slow progress was made until the helicopter crashed on 29 August 1930. By then working for the Dutch CAA, Von Baumhauer was killed in the crash of Boeing Stratoliner NX19901 on 18 March 1939. Photo from: Nederlands Instituut voor Militaire Historie

After the success of the Let L.410 twin engine turboprop in the late 70s, Aeroflot requested a possible replacement for its An-24 aircraft. However, the collapse of the Soviet Union left the project vulnerable and attempts to 'Westernise' the plane were unsuccessful. Only eight aircraft were built (6 flying and 2 for structural tests). This unfinished frame was intended for Czech AF but is now on display at the Letecké Muzeum Kunovice.

This plane was always thought to be OK-WZA c/n 910101. However, in August 2020 the dataplate was able to be checked and the airframe is now confirmed as c/n 920103. It was first noted in February 1994, still on the Let assembly line, and last seen there in July 1997. The plane never flew and was first noted at the museum in September 2013.

The fuselage of cn 11508, which was still on the production line when Fokker factory went out of business. It is now preserved on the roof of the main building of Stolwerk Staal, a scrapyard in Breda. The wings and engines are fake, made by the guys working at Stolwerk. The fuselage was to become TAM Brazil PT-MRX.

This used to be one of the DC-3 centers in South America. But now this is the very last DC-3 to remain at Ciudad Bolivar. Completely painted white, no trace of an identification mark. I presume it is one of the Rutaca ones, as it was parked on their ramp. Seen from the city park on the otherside of the runway.

This 1910 Bristol Boxkite replica was built by F. G. Miles Engineering Ltd for the famous 1965 film 'Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines'. It was called 'The Phoenix Flyer' in the film. Later with the Shuttleworth Collection in airworthy condition. Originally it had no registration, so the British Aviation Preservation Council assigned identity BAPC.2 to it. In 1981 the CAA insisted on having a civil registration assigned and it became G-ASPP then.

This F13 has English-language instruments and was intended for John Larsen Aircraft in the USA as a JL-6, but seized by the Allied Control Commission in Germany and given to France in early 1921. It was already listed in the Musée de l'Air catalogue of 1922-23. Construction number 609 is apparently confirmed on an airframe part and it is not c/n 600 which was put to use in Belgium as a racing pigeon transport.

This Il-14 was TOC by the Polish AF as '005', subsequently '0833', in October 1956. It was retired in December 1987 and then ferried to Speyer in early 1988. It was flown to Sinsheim underneath a GAF CH-53G and is on display in these fake Bulgarian Air Transport markings a without registration.

Igor Etrich was an early Czech aircraft designer most notable for the pre-WWI monoplane 'Taube', which was the first aircraft to be mass-produced in Germany. The E.VIII was his last design and dates from 1929 but, unfortunately, didn't make it into serial production. This was the only example built and is now on display in the Národní technické muzeum in Prague.
