Unique passenger aircraft among the 32 in the Ulyanovsk museum. The Tu-116, like the Tu-114, was based on the Tu-95 bomber, its mission being to transport the head of state along with his security staff and entourage. Development of the Tu-116 parallel to the Tu-116 airliner was justified by Khrushchev's visit to the United States, at which time the Tu-114 might not have been ready. Two Tu-116s were completed, neither actually being used to carry the president but instead to ferry Tu-95 maintenance crews

The Tu-116, like the Tu-114, was based on the Tu-95 bomber, its mission being to transport the head of state along with his security staff and entourage. Development of the Tu-116 parallel to the Tu-116 airliner was justified by Khrushchev's visit to the United States, at which time the Tu-114 might not have been ready. Two Tu-116s were completed, neither actually being used to carry the president but instead to ferry Tu-95 maintenance crews

Originally delivered to the RAF in 1954 as WK137, this eye-catching Canberra was initially intended to be used as a target tug out of Oberpfaffenhofen from 1966 with Eprobungstelle 61 but instead was used for various systems trials. Got a highly memorable ride on this from SEN to RTM - the Captain wanted to give the F/O some practice so he made him take off with his windscreen completely obscured by a clipboard. I recall the church at the end of Southend's 5250ft runway 24 looming up ahead and thinking this was starting to look very scary! Originally United's 'Cargoliner Chicago' (N37592) in 1956 and then to Fred Olsen as LN-FOL ten years after. Nose now preserved in Iceland
