VH-ASD was operated by Maurice Oliver at the time of the photo. He had planned to use the aircraft for cattle mustering. It was not as successful as hoped and the aircraft was sold. It crashed at Quamby, Queensland, on February 9, 1955. Aerial cattle mustering was later widely adopted initially with fixed wing aircraft but now more commonly with light helicopters. The second Auster operated by Southend-based Rochford Hundred Flying Group. The primer on the rear fuselage had been applied following repairs necessitated by a ground-loop on landing at Southend. The aircraft was written-off in a non-fatal crash in the Jura Mountains above Chézery, France on 10th August 1972 while en route from Geneva to Macon. It was cancelled from the UK Register as 'destroyed' on 3rd October 1972.

Arrived at Southend the previous day, 14th June 1969, on delivery to the Rochford Hundred Flying Group, to whom it was registered 4th July 1969. It replaced their earlier Auster 5D G-ANHX and was operated by that group until it was written off in a non-fatal crash in the Jura Mountains above Chézery, France on 10th August 1972 while en route from Geneva to Macon, with the three occupants sustaining only minor injuries. It was cancelled from the UK Register as 'destroyed' on 3rd October 1972.
