September/44: Began storage tour, several bases. 12 May '59: Flown to the Air Force Museum at Patterson Field, Fairborn, OH.

A mechanic had just checked everything and now it is waiting for the next lesson to begin.

F-4E 66-0319 was assigned to the Thunderbirds from 1969-1973. It was the #2 a/c in 1970, and appears to have had that designation for all four years. In 1974 it was assigned to the 4th TFW, and in 1978 was assigned to the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB, CA. It was retired in September 1991. It is currently on display at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5146 in Athens, Tennessee.

Not many advanced aircraft made it to the start of the 1934 London - Melbourne race, and even fewer to the finish. New Zealanders McGregor and Johnnie Walker were able to take fifth place in the speed race in this new, but fairly modest machine.
