Delivered new to CP Air in April 1970, serving them until sold as N116TA in May 1977. Flew for Dan-Air as G-BKCG between May 1982 and December 1984.

CF-CPT had been leased to several cargo airlines by Douglas (as N1509U) before it was sold to Canadian Pacific in November 1967. Ten years later it was sold to IAS Cargo Airlines as G-BSKY.

Canadian Pacific was in the middle of changing its identity to CP Air when this photo was taken of CF-CPS in its original livery. Luckily, taxiway works meant a circuitous trip from the terminal to the Qantas Jet Base, bringing Empress of Madrid within range of a 55mm lens.

CF-CPQ and TAA Boeing 727 VH-TJA collided at Sydney airport on the night of January 29, 1971. There were 240 people on the two aircraft. The report found the CP Air crew had backtracked instead of exiting while the crew of the 727 was criticised for failing to see the DC-8 when they had time to stop and not adopting a steeper climb-out when they did. The controller was largely exonerated because from his position at night it was difficult to see if the DC-8 was on the runway or the taxiway. The 727 safely landed despite losing hydraulics from a large hole in the belly. No injuries.

CF-CPP lines up for a 07 departure wearing Skybus/Aerobus titles. Skybus was a low-cost fare introduced by CP Air on its domestic trunk routes following the first steps towards deregulating air transport in Canada.

Before the change to C-F registration

CF-CPJ was delivered to Canadian Pacific in May 1963 and had not long been repainted in the bold CP Air livery when photographed.

CF-FPI was delivered to Canadian Pacific in May 1961.

Canadian Pacific flew to Sydney only once a fortnight (two weeks) at the time the photo was taken. DC-8s had not long replaced Britannias on the route, the switch coming with the opening of the new Mangere Airport at Auckland, New Zealand in November 1965.

Old slide of somewhat disappointing quality, but interesting nevertheless. CP Air was a very frequent visitor at Amsterdam for many years. In 1981 they still operated their DC-8s into Schiphol, but they would soon change that to their similarly coloured DC-10s. CF-CPP "Empress of Alberta" is seen here in their striking orange colour scheme, shortly after touchdown on runway 19R.

C-FCRD promotes Expo 86, which was still two years away.

Starting her take-off roll in the classic orange CP colours, this DC-10 bought new in 11.79 went to Bangladesh Biman on lease in 11.90 as S2-ADN but was w/o at Chittagong on 1.7.05 after running off the runway in rain

C-FCPO gets airborne from runway 16 not long before the DC-8s were replaced by DC-10s on the route.

The 2m timber fence with plastic mesh in the foreground was the boundary fence in the early 1980s.
