Delivered to the USAAF as 42-72220 in June 1944, transferred directly to the US Navy as R5D-1 Bu. No. 39172. Then to Northwest Airlines as NC49529 in 1946, leased to Pacific Overseas Airlines as N49529 in 1948. Joined Icelandair in 1962, from February 1963 as TF-FID. Four years later, it moved to South Africa and joined Africair/Wenela Air Services as ZS-FCK. After a short tenure, it was leased by Botswana National Airways as VQ-ZEG, later A2-ZEG. The following year it returned to South Africa as ZS-FCK with Protea Airways - Protea Lugdiens. Swazi Air leased it in October 1970 as VQ-ZJN and from May 1971 as 3D-AAL.

Still in the basic maritime colours of the South African Air Force, this former 27 Squadron Albatross, as the type was known in SAAF service, is here seen as a gate guardian at Port Elizabeth Airport. During the 1960s, the South African Air Force recognized the requirement for an inshore maritime patrol and fisheries surveillance aircraft. With an already established relationship with Piaggio the P-166 was chosen. Named Albatross in SAAF service, the first was delivered in October 1969; 887 was delivered in March 1970. The fleet was retired in 1992/1993 and replaced by Dakotas, the very aircraft the Albatross replaced. 887 was sold as ZU-ABV in July 1992 and later went to the SAAF Museum Port Elizabeth.

Delivered to the SAAF in 1970, 122 spent it service life with 19 Squadron. It was shot down over Mussende in Angola during Operation Savannah on 4 January 1976. It is seen here in the original olive colours with large castle inisignia and white serial. Photographer unknown

Impala Mk 1 507 is displayed at a restaurant outside Port Elizabeth International Airport carrying the Flying Training School's crest. The FTS was established at Langebaanweg in 1968 and became 83 Jet Flying School in 1984 before finally absorbed into 85 Combat Flying School at Hoedspruit in 1993.

Delivered to the RAF in March 1944. The following year 6859 went to the SAAF where she was active with 28, 44 and 60 Sqds for 49 years. In 1994 she was transferred to the SAAF Museum in flying condition. Here seen in Port Elizabeth in 1968. Photographer unknown

Delivered to the USAAF as 42-92857 then transferred to the Soviet Air Force in 1944. To LOT as SP-LCB in 1957 then to OY-AIC and the French Air force as 92857 in 1959. To F-BRGM then to the Yugoslav Air Force as 71241 in 1972. To YU-ABU in 1979, N8071X in 1979 and fake reg TN-ADS for delivery to the SAAF as 6887 in 1981. Converted to a C-47TP by 2000.

Delivered to the USAAF as 42-92597 then transferred to the RAF as KG385 and the SAAF as 6828 in 1944. Converted to a C-47TP AEW in 1999. Possibly still current in 2021.

Vaal carried the registration ZS-DYO from delivery in 1965 to 1968 when all 727s were reregistered in the ZS-SBx series.

This HS.748 led an interesting life. It was the Series 2A demonstrator for Hawker Siddeley before being leased out to potential customers worldwide on short-term leases. In 1976 it ended up in Canada with Eastern Provincial Airways. The logo on the tail is that of Hawker Siddeley.
